Banking, Saving and Financial Services

Alameda County CAN hopes to leverage the success and relationships of other groundbreaking local and statewide efforts serving the un- and under-banked to develop low-cost financial products, give people a “second chance”, and allow people with alternative forms of identification access to the financial mainstream.

But Alameda County CAN’s Banking Menu is different – just like people’s financial product needs, preferences, and skill levels.  In our model, clients working with their financial counselor or educator are referred to the "best fit" product for them.  Together with the financial institution, the counselor/educator and client will work to ensure a successful experience with the product.  We will begin referring our clients in the Summer/Fall of 2008 and track their success via their financial counselor.

We have developed:

Until our in-depth product inventory is online, we recommend you use CRC's 2007 Banking Guide in English or Español as well as their overdraft guide (Español) to inform yourself about some currently available checking accounts.  We also recommend that you consider credit unions when looking for financial products.
